Kaitlin Luna : Is meaning in life an eternal question? Have people always searched for meaning in life or is that something that’s happening because of our modern world today?Ĭlara Hill : Well, I think it is something that people have always searched for because by the nature of our cognitive development, when we try to figure out how to make sense of the world, I think that’s why religions developed. And I think as, as particular religion declines and as job security is so flexible, people really have to spend a lot more time to think about what they want in life and how they’re going to go about getting it. They just didn’t have the opportunity to have as many choices about meaning in life. I think in the past, people often took their meaning in life as their religion or their job and didn’t have much opportunity to think about it. So, what are your thoughts about those conversations that are happening out there in the world?Ĭlara Hill : Well, I think it’s terrific because I think people really need to find meaning in life and the emphasis is ever more now than what it used to be, which is interesting.
